TORRANCE J. COLVIN

Torrance (Torry) J. Colvin, is a graduate of American University, where he pursued and interdisciplinary major in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics and Government (CLEG). Upon graduation from American, Torrance attended Howard University School of Law.
Upon graduation, Torrance worked as a trial attorney at a large Washington, D.C. based litigation firm, before branching out on his own and starting a small three partner boutique firm with offices on historic U Street, N.W. He worked on numerous injury cases, including medical malpractice cases, as well as for a plethora of small to emerging businesses. His caseload included numerous litigation matters as well as spearheading and negotiating large transaction and acquisition matters.
As a result of his stellar litigation skills, Mr. Colvin was recruited to join the National Office of the NAACP in the Office of the General Counsel. At the NAACP, Mr. Colvin handled redistricting cases, class action employment and discrimination matters, and eventually was appointed by President & CEO Kweisi Mfume as National Director of Voter Empowerment (a position once held by Medgar Evers), where he oversaw a multi-million dollar budget and large staff. Mr. Colvin worked on numerous litigation matters and served as briefing counsel for numerous appellate matters, and was even NAACP briefing counsel of record for Supreme Court redistricting cases.
While serving in numerous capacities in both the private and non-profit sector, Mr. Colvin taught courtroom advocacy as an adjunct member of the faculty of Howard University for nearly 10 years teaching courses in communication law, negotiation and conflict resolution, legal research, and mock trial. He also served as the Attorney Coach of the Howard University Mock Trial Team, which was the American Mock Trial Association National Runner Up and consistently placed in the top 10 nationally while he was a coach.
Mr. Colvin eventually left the NAACP and reestablished his private practice of law, under the name of The Colvin Law Firm PLLC in 2010. He continues to focus on serving clients who have been wronged or injured.
